Cup Socket Set Screws are the most commonly used set screw featuring a cup-shaped indentation on one end. The cup point of this screw is mainly used for a quick, semi-permanent or permanent part assembly where the cutting in of the cup point edge of the screw is acceptable.
Cone Socket Set Screws have a sharp pointed tip on one end. It is used for the permanent setting of parts. They offer the highest holding capability, due to the deep penetration of the cone point.
Oval Socket Set Screws feature an oval shaped point on one end. Oval Socket Set Screws are often used in an environment where frequent adjustments are needed and minimal deforming of the part is required.

Brass Tip Socket Set Screws are used for specialty type services.
Knurled Cup Socket Set Screws are similar to cup point set screws, but these screws have knurls that help them stay in place; improves grip and prevents them from backing out or loosening from vibration. All have a hex socket.
