Yellow Zinc Coating- common sacrificial coating used in finishing steel parts to provide protection from red rust. Applied electrolytically to a typical thickness of 200 – 300 micro inches (.0002" - .0003"). It protects the underlying steel by the formation of a "galvanic cell", which results in the zinc corroding preferentially to the steel. It has a decorative appeal. Yellow dichromate passivate, greatly improves corrosion resistance.
