Zinc-plated steel thimbles provide good corrosion resistance in most environments. For better corrosion resistance, choose hot-dipped galvanized steel thimbles that have a thicker zinc coating.

Type 304 and 316 stainless steel thimbles exhibit excellent corrosion resistance. Wire Rope Clips are malleable iron clips are good where corrosion is not a factor.

Forged steel clips are stronger than malleable iron clips and is also good for applications where corrosion is not a factor. Hand held models are sued to cut smaller wire rope diameters including safety wire, truck and rail security cables. Impact cutters are portable, easy to operate, and are actuated by using a hammer and striking a few hard blows to effect a perfect cut.
